A post-1.0 take on the cozy farming / life-sim RPG from NPC Studio.
What it is
Fields of Mistria is a single-player farming and life-simulation RPG about rebuilding a town and reawakening its magic, made by NPC Studio (an indie team in Chicago) and self-published on Steam. You take over a neglected homestead in the village of Mistria after an earthquake, then farm, fish, mine, craft, befriend more than 30 villagers, and slowly repair the town while uncovering a dragon-themed mystery. It's often described as "Sailor Moon meets Stardew Valley" for its 90s anime-inspired art and cozy pacing.
Strengths
- The story actually matters. Town restoration isn't a backdrop — nearly every major quest revolves around rebuilding Mistria, and it's woven together with the dragon/magic lore instead of sitting as a separate system.
- Quality-of-life the genre needed. You can jump and swim, museums and shops stay open, there's no friendship decay from skipping days, and cooking doesn't require items in your pack.
- A deep, generous loop. 50+ crops, 700+ craftables, animal breeding for rare color variants, nine levelable skills, and a magic system that aids both farming and adventuring.
- Romance with payoff. 12 candidates, and the 1.0 update delivers marriage, weddings, and an optional children system players asked for throughout Early Access.
Weaknesses
- Single-player only. No co-op or shared farm if that's what you want.
- Still light on some endgame variety. Long-time players note festivals and some repeatable content could be deeper (more is planned post-1.0).
- Localization is rolling out. Beta translations (including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish) landed with 1.0 but may be incomplete for late-game text at launch.

It doesn't just imitate its inspirations — it pushes the farming-sim RPG forward with its town-restoration story, magic systems, and thoughtful quality-of-life. Buy it if you want a cozy game you can sink hundreds of hours into.
