BEGINNER GUIDE
Fields of Mistria Beginner Guide
A cozy farming / life-sim RPG where the real hook is rebuilding a town and its magic. Here's how the loop works and what to do in your first season.
The core loop
You arrive in Mistria with a neglected homestead and a promise to help the villagers rebuild after an earthquake. Each day you farm, fish, mine, forage, cook, and craft; you spend what you earn upgrading your farm and the town; and you build relationships with the people who live there. Progress comes from a mix of steady daily routines and a town-restoration questline that unlocks new areas, shops, and systems as Mistria's renown climbs.
Your first tools
You begin with basics and pick up the rest through quests and shops. The essentials:
- Watering Can. Your daily workhorse. Upgrading it (e.g. to a silver can) saves time every morning, so it's a strong first upgrade.
- Hoe & Pickaxe. For tilling soil and breaking rocks. The Pickaxe is obtained through an early NPC favor quest, not bought.
- Fishing Rod. Fishing is a reliable early income source before the mines open.
- Bug Net. Unlocked through an early quest — used to catch insects for museum sets and requests.
- Backpack. Your starting pack is small; expanding it (via the general store) stops you dropping items when you're full.
The Request Board & town ranks
The Request Board posts daily handwritten requests from villagers — a fast way to earn money, seeds, and tool upgrades early on, often better than blindly farming. Completing requests and restoring landmarks raises Mistria's town rank (Stone Star and beyond), which in turn reopens areas like the mines and new shops. Repairing the Eastern Road Bridge restores the Saturday market route and pushes the main story forward.
Romance & marriage (1.0)
There are 12 romance candidates. Befriend a candidate and raise their hearts through gifts, dialogue, and Heart Quests. In the 1.0 update you can reach 10 hearts, craft an Engagement Ring, trigger a proposal event, and customize your wedding. Marriage unlocks an optional children system. The game also lets you disable the auto "best friends" switch after engagement if you'd rather keep other routes open.
Magic & skills
Restoring an old dragon statue forms a pact with Caldarus, a thousand-year-old dragon, and unlocks magic spells that help with farming and adventuring. You also level nine skills (farming, mining, fishing, foraging, combat, and more), each with perks. Spend purple Essence at the Caldarus shrine to unlock skill perks.
Mining & the ruins
The mines reopen once you've earned the Worn Pickaxe and raised the town to Stone Star. They're divided into ecological zones (upper, tide, deep earth, lava) with an elevator every few floors. The first floor is monster-free, so it's safe to learn the ropes. Mining fuels crafting and museum sets.
Beginner tips
- Expand your backpack early — the starting 10 slots fill fast.
- Fish before the mines open; mine and sell surplus gear after.
- Upgrade your watering can first; it pays off every morning.
- Tools can be upgraded laterally (straight to silver) — you don't need every tier.
- Visit the Sleeping Dragon Inn for a free soup that restores energy.
- Don't rush — there's no clock on the main story; play at your pace.
Before you start
Make sure your machine meets the bar — see the System Requirements page. Then plant your first crop and say hello to Mistria.
